Larry Flynt protects nude photos of Jessica Lynch
By Gina Keating LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Porn king Larry Flynt, casting himself in the unlikely role of white knight to U.S. Army private Jessica Lynch, says he has bought semi-nude photos of the former POW "to keep them out of circulation."
"I purchased them at first with the intention of publishing them, however, I quickly changed my mind and decided simply to keep them out of circulation," Flynt said in a statement. "If Jessica Lynch wants to join the army and see the world, and if she wants to have a good time while she's at it, I'm not here to judge her." Flynt, a vocal critic of the Iraq conflict, described Lynch as a pawn in the U.S. government's "cynical attempt to create a 'hero' who can 'sell' the war to the American people." "But Jessica Lynch is not a hypocrite," he said. "She's a victim of the media and the Government, co-conspirators desperate to justify the war in Iraq." The photos reportedly feature a topless Lynch romping with two men at Fort Bliss, Texas, where she was stationed before shipping off to Iraq earlier this year. A spokesman for Lynch's publisher, Alfred Knopf, could not immediately be reached for comment. Knopf on Tuesday launched "I Am A Soldier, Too: The Jessica Lynch Story," her authorised biography. Lynch, a supply clerk, was riding in a convoy on March 23 when her company was ambushed near Nassiriya. Eleven soldiers died and nine were wounded. Army officials initially reported that Lynch fought desperately before being captured. Officials released a video showing her dramatic rescue from the Iraqi hospital by U.S. Special Forces. Lynch later said she had not fired a single bullet because her weapon jammed, and she was injured when her Humvee was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade and crashed. Jessica Lynch arrived in Germany for treatment of two broken legs and bullet wounds reportedly suffered in a fierce gun battle she waged against her Iraqi captors. The Washington Post reported Thursday that the 19-year-old Army supply clerk shot several Iraqi soldiers during the March 23 ambush that resulted in her capture. She kept firing even after she had several gunshot wounds, finally running out of ammunition, the newspaper said, citing unidentified U.S. officials. "She was fighting to the death," the Post quoted an official as saying. "She did not want to be taken alive." Pentagon officials and family members contacted late Wednesday declined comment on the report. Lynch was rescued from an Iraqi hospital in a daring nighttime raid Tuesday by U.S. commandos acting on a CIA tip. The former POW left Iraq on a stretcher with an American flag folded across her chest, and arrived at a U.S. air base in Germany late Wednesday for treatment at the U.S. military's Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. From Germany, she spoke with her family at their home in Palestine, West Virginia, in a 15-minute telephone call. "She's real spirited. She hasn't eaten in eight days and she's hungry," said her father, Greg Lynch. "She wants some food." Randy Coleman, a military spokesman in West Virginia, said Lynch had

"She's weak, she knows she's injured and they're doing the best that they can to get her so she can travel," said her brother Greg Lynch Jr. Her father said she will be transferred to Walter Reed Hospital in Washington as soon as possible. The U.S. forces who rescued her also found 11 corpses — some believed to be Americans — in and around Saddam Hospital, and the military was trying to determine whether any of them were captured members of her unit. Lynch and as many as 12 other members of the 507th Maintenance Company were captured after making a wrong turn in Nasiriyah. She watched several soldiers in her unit die in the ambush, the Post reported. Not long after the fighting, five of Lynch's fellow soldiers showed up in Iraqi television footage being asked questions by their captors. The video also showed bodies, apparently of U.S. soldiers, leading the Pentagon to accuse Iraq of executing some POWs. Lynch joined the Army after graduating from high school in 2001. Her brother

To help Jessica Lynch reach her goal of becoming a kindergarten teacher, West Virginia and Marshall universities and Liberty College in Lynchburg, Va., offered her competing packages Wednesday. And West Virginia Gov. Bob Wise said the state would finance Jessica Lynch's education at a state public college or university of her choosing. "She wants to become a teacher, and we are going to see that she becomes one," he said after visiting the Lynch family at home. 11 Bodies Found With Rescued U.S. POWBy DOUG MELLGREN, Associated Press Writer NASIRIYAH, Iraq - Eleven bodies — some of them believed to be Americans — were found with prisoner of war Pfc. Jessica Lynch when she was rescued in a U.S. commando raid on an Iraqi hospital, a military spokesman said Wednesday. Jessica Lynch, a 19-year-old Army supply clerk, was captured by the Iraqis more than a week ago after her maintenance unit made a wrong turn and was ambushed in Nasiriyah. Twelve other members of her unit were also feared captured; five of them are officially listed as POWs. Acting on an intelligence tip about Lynch's whereabouts, U.S. special operations forces slipped behind enemy lines and seized Lynch from the Saddam Hospital under cover of darkness Tuesday, military officials said. The U.S. forces engaged in a firefight on the way into and out of the building, but there were no coalition casualties, said Brig. Gen. Vincent Brooks, a U.S. Central Command spokesman. He said ammunition, mortars, maps and a terrain model were found at the hospital, along with "other things that made it very clear it was being used as a military command post." During the rescue operation, 11 bodies were recovered in and around the hospital. The cause of death was not immediately disclosed. "We have reason to believe some of them were Americans," said Navy Capt. Frank Thorp, another U.S. Central Command spokesman. He said the military has not confirmed whether they were members of Lynch's unit, the 507th Maintenance Company. "We don't yet know the identity of those people," Thorp said. "And forensics will determine that." Two of the bodies were in a morgue in the hospital, while the nine others were in a grave area in the community, Brooks said. He said U.S. forces were led to the gravesite by someone who had been taken into custody. Lynch was being treated for her injuries at an American military facility Wednesday. The nature of her injuries was not disclosed, and Brooks would not comment on her condition. But in a green-tinted, night-vision video taken of the rescue operation and shown to reporters Wednesday, she was put aboard a Black Hawk helicopter on a stretcher. Until Tuesday, Jessica Lynch had been listed as missing in action, and her family did not know whether she was dead or alive. "You would not believe the joys, cries, bawling, hugging, screaming, carrying on," Lynch's cousin Pam Nicolais said after the rescue. "You just have to be here." The rescue operation included Air Force pilots, Marines, Navy SEALS, Army Rangers — "loyal to the creed they know that they never leave a fallen comrade," Brooks said. Thorp would not confirm reports that troops used a battlefield diversion to slip into the hospital. The 507th was attacked March 23 during some of the earliest fighting in Nasiriyah, where Fedayeen loyalists and other hardcore Iraqi fighters are said to have dressed as civilians and ambushed Americans. Not long after the ambush, five of Lynch's comrades showed up in a video shown on Iraqi television being asked questions by their captors. The video also showed bodies, apparently of U.S. soldiers, leading Pentagon officials to accuse Iraq of executing some of its POWs. Officials believe the video was made in the Nasiriyah area. Lynch, an aspiring teacher from Palestine, W.Va., joined the Army to get an education, her family said. She left a farming community with an unemployment rate of 15 percent, one of the highest levels in West Virginia. She was following in the footsteps of her older brother Gregory, a National Guardsman based at Fort Bragg, N.C. Jessica Lynch enlisted through the Army's delayed-entry program before graduating from high school. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., called the rescue a miracle. "God watched over Jessica and her family," Rockefeller said through a spokesman in Washington. "All of West Virginia is rejoicing. This is an amazing tribute to the skill and courage of our military." Early Wednesday, Marines seized the hospital under light sniper fire, after U.S. forces delivered a baby Iraqi girl they named "America." As soon as the Marines rolled into the hospital compound, civilian patients and medical staff began emerging with their hands up. Most were allowed to leave, or to return into the building for treatment. Inside the hospital, the Marines found a small number of weapons, as well as a terrain map of the region. "We hope your city will return to normal, and that you will no longer live in fear," Brig. Gen. Rick Natonski, commander of the Marine's Task Force Tarawa, told doctors gathered outside the large and relatively modern desert town hospital, where many of the windows were blown out after days of bombing and artillery strikes nearby. "We want to return Iraq to Iraqis." Earlier Wednesday, U.S. forces spotted a 20-year-old Iraqi woman in labor in a pickup truck. The woman's family had been displaced from another city and was living in tents in Nasiriyah. "I got the ambulance and sent her to the battalion aid station and delivered a healthy baby girl and named her America. On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, at 8:45am New York local time, One World Trade Center, the north tower, was hit by a hijacked 767 commercial jet airplane, loaded with fuel for a trans-continental flight. Two World Trade Center, the south tower, was hit by a similar hijacked jet 18 minutes later at 9:03am. (In separate but related attacks, the Pentagon building near Washington D.C. was hit by a hijacked 757 at 9:43am, and at 10:10am, a fourth hijacked jetliner crashed in Pennsylvania.) The south tower, WTC 2, which had been hit second, was the first to suffer a complete structural collapse at 10:05am, 62 minutes after being hit itself, 80 minutes after the first impact. The north tower, WTC 1, then also collapsed at 10:29am, 104 minutes after being hit. WTC 7, a substantial 47 story office building in its own right, built in 1987, was damaged by the collapsing towers, caught fire, and later in the afternoon also totally collapsed.
The list of collapsed buildings (as confirmed by the New York Times through Saturday, 2001.0915) included all seven buildings of the World Trade center complex — including WTC 6, the U.S Customs House to the north; WTC 3, the 22 story Marriot World Trade Center hotel just west of Tower Two; and WTC 4 and 5, the Plaza Buildings to the east (although satellite images suggest much of WTC 5, the north Plaza Building, was still standing). Other nearby buildings were significantly damaged, including the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, and One Liberty Plaza, a 54 floor, 743' tall building across Church Street to the east. About 2800 people died in the attack. The recovery and site clearing process officially concluded on May 30, 2002 with 1796 people still remain unrecovered. 1.8 million tons of debris was removed from the disaster site. Yahoo!
